A couple of days ago, Jacky left a comment with a question for us to consider.
Here is Jacky’s question:
hello sir just wanna ask, I just gave birth to my son last april 2011 and had his CRBA and US passport July same year. I want him to have dual citizenship since I am still a Filipino and we are both still here in the PI and also get a PI passport for him. My question is.. what should I do first, applying for dual citizenship ( where and how ) or get his passport first. Thank you Sir and GODbless
Hi Jacky – Thank you for your question. Since you say that you are still Filipino, you cannot apply for Dual Citizenship. You can only do that after you have already become naturalized in anther country first.
You also say that you are both still in the Philippines. If your child was born in the Philippines, and you were a Philippine citizen at the time of his birth, then your son is already a Philippine Citizenship. He is also a US citizen since you said you already got him a US Passport. You do not need to do anything other than to just go apply for a Philippine Passport for your son!
Good luck, Jacky! I wish you and your child the best.
