JMar Sturkey wrote in today, he is concerned about how to travel as a dual citizen.
Here is JMar’s question:
If I become a US Citizen then reaquire my Philippine Citizenship, which passport do I use? US or Philippine? For travel from US and back with under 12 month stay or with over a 12 month stay? I am confused on which one.
Well, I am not trying to be flippant, but the truth is that since you are legally a citizen of two different countries, you are free to use whichever passport you choose.
There are things you need to consider, though. For example, if you are going to the USA, you need to use your US passport, since you do not have a Visa as a Philippine Citizen to enter the USA, so just use your US passport. If you are coming to the Philippines, you should enter with your Philippine passport since that will give you the full rights as a Philippine Citizen during your stay. So, wherever you are traveling, just look at the situation, decide which passport you can legally enter on, and what the advantages and disadvantages are of using either passport for the destination where you are heading.
Good luck to you.
