I got a note from Divina today regarding her family and the implications to them if she gets dual citizenship.
Here is Divina’s note:
I am formerly Filipino, and now US citizen. I have a husband and a child.
Planing to retire in the Philippines.
My question; if I will get dual citizen, what is the benefit of my husband and daughter can get, about staying in the Philippines?
Thank you for writing in.
Really there are no benefits for your husband. Whether you are a US Citizen or a Philippine Citizen (or both) he can get the same long term stay in the Philippines. If you were to live here, your husband can get a 13(a) Visa if you are a Philippine Citizen or a Dual Citizen. If you were not a Philippine Citizen, your husband would qualify for a 13(g) Visa to be a resident here. Both visas give exactly the same benefits.
For your daughter, she could benefit in that when you apply for dual citizenship, you can include her on the application, and she will also be a citizen of each country.
Good luck to you and your family, Divina.
