Yesterday morning, I got an e-mail from somebody on Facebook. I was a bit surprised because the e-mail came from somebody whom I don’t know, nor is she even my friend on Facebook. But, I read the message. Here is what it said:
Hi bob, just wondering, do you own Bob’s Burger (or something like that) at Habana Compound, Rizal Street? I like burgers and I’ve read some of your blogs but I haven’t seen anything about Bob’s Burgers.
Hmm… Bob’s Burgers? I never heard of the place before! Interesting. This requires some investigation! I decided that it was really my duty to go try one of Bob’s Burgers for lunch… I mean the place has my name, so I better make sure the quality is up to snuff! This kind of research is difficult and demanding, but heck, I can’t shrug off my responsibilities, right? 😉
So, I had to go into the City anyway for a couple of other things – a visit to the dentist and also a haircut. Perfect opportunity to try out a burger from Bob’s Burger, right?
I went to Bob’s Burgers, which is located in the La Habana Compound, on Rizal Street. At first, I missed the place, because there is no sign that says “Bob’s Burgers.” The sign there says “Rizal Street Restaurant,” which is in the same compound, and owned by the same person, Bob White. In fact, Bob White, and his sidekick, Jack were sitting out on the patio when I passed by. After meeting them, I sat down to have a discussion while waiting for my burger to be prepared. I found both Bob and Jack to be very nice guys, and I enjoyed talking with them.
At Bob’s Burgers I ordered the 1/4 Pound Cheeseburger, and an order of onion rings. I placed my order to go, or “take out” as they call it here. I had decided to eat at home, as I had some work to do still. When I got home, I asked my wife to put my burger and onion rings on a plate for me and bring it to my office, which she did. When she brought it to me, the burger looked delicious. Upon eating it, I can assure you that the looks were not deceiving. It was very good. Nice firm hamburger patty, I think it was actually more than the 1/4 pound that it was advertised at. I only know that it was very satisfying, and my taste buds were very happy! The onion rings were great too. My only suggestion to improve the burger is a better bun. Still, though, even with the bun that it came on, it was delicious. No big complaints on the bun, but I just felt that it was a bit plain, and could have been better. The rest of the hamburger, though, was as good as it gets, I think.
As of right now, I must say that Bob’s Burgers, in my opinion, has taken over the crown as the best burger in Davao City!
I’ll give two big thumbs up to Bob’s Burgers, and I encourage you to check it out! I’ll be back, you can be sure of that!
Disclosure: Firstly, I am not associated in any way with Bob’s Burgers, except that I bought a burger there, I don’t own the place or have any other connection. Secondly, the photo in this article is not of the burger from Bob’s, I must confess that I ate the burger before I remembered to take a photo! Sorry about that.
