Hold on, hold on… this is supposed to be a blog about Davao Food! What’s this with “Chikaan sa Cebu?”
Well, Chikaan sa Cebu is indeed in Davao! Yes, they are originally from Cebu, but they have a branch in Abreeza Mall on J.P. Laurel here in Davao!
When I went to Abreeza over the past months, I often saw this place, Chikaan sa Cebu, but never paid it that much attention. But, one day when I was passing by, they had a sign in the window promoting a new addition to their menu: Honey Butter Ribs. They looked delicious, and I wanted to try them. Unfortunately, it seemed like I was always in Abreeza early in the morning, and not a good time to eat ribs! But, finally, one day, I took my wife around noontime, and we went to Chikaan!
Our first impression of Chikaan is that it was a rather simple place, nothing fancy at all. I mean, not downscale, but not upscale either. It seemed like a good family type place.

On our first visit, my wife and I ordered the following
- Honey Buttered Ribs (of course!)
- Chorizo de Cebu
- Lumpia Shanghai
- Garlic Rice
- Cucumber Citrus Cooler to drink
We were quite surprised when the food started landing on our table only about 2 minutes after we ordered. Talk about quick service. In fact, within 5 minutes from ordering, we had our entire order, except for the Chorizo. That took a bit longer, maybe 10 minutes.
The first thing brought to the table was the rice, and my immediate reaction was that we could have gotten by with just one order instead of two. For me, the rice was so plentiful! But, I think that Feyma may have finished her rice, not sure on that. I know that I ate only about half.
Out of what we ordered, what was the star of the day? Honestly, it’s hard to say, because everything was so good! If I were forced to choose, I’d go with the Honey Buttered Ribs, but the Chorizo and the Lumpia were 99% as good as the ribs were. There was no let down, that’s for sure.
In fact, the food was so good that by the time left, I felt so full that I quickly realized that I ate way too much!
One real surprise was the Cucumber Citrus Cooler. It was a drink that was based on water with cucumbers and citrus fruits added. Really refreshing and delicious. I recommend it highly.
I have to say, Chikaan was so good, I recommend it highly. As I said, it’s not fancy, but the food is great. As much as I love the Philippines, I am normally not a big fan of most Filipino foods, but the food at Chikaan was really super! In fact, since this first visit, I’ve already been back twice! It’s that good.
Give Chikaan a try. They are located at Abreeza Mall in Davao. You can’t enter Chikaan from inside the mall, though, so go outside and you will find Chikaan over near Mandarin Tea Garden. I’m pretty sure you’ll like the place, I know that Feyma and I did!
